Back to Basics

Date: June 9, 2015 | Location: Atlanta (Inman Park), Georgia

I've been doing a major closet cleanse over the last few weeks. At the start of each new season, I always try to go through my clothes and discard the ones that I didn't wear or only donned a few times during the previous year. Based on the items I chose to consign/donate, I seem to have developed a definite inclination towards more minimal, basic styles. Most of the items that I chose to cleanse were comprised of prints and somewhat busy.

Of course, as I've been getting rid of the old, tired items, I've been purchasing fresh styles for the season. This simple black and white combo is definitely meeting my current craving for uncomplicated fashion while still remaining on-trend. My "sweater", purse and shoes are all from Madewell, who in my opinion, is one of the masters of minimal fashion. I say "sweater" because although that is how Madewell defines it, it is lightweight and comfortable for even the steamiest of days.

The saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" couldn't ring truer than when it comes to clothes. Many of the items I no longer wanted were in great condition, so I decided to consign or donate them. Because I used to work at a consignment store in high school, I always try to find a good local shop to take my unwanted clothes to. I relish in the thought of them bringing someone else the enjoyment they once brought me at only a fraction of the price.
