Date: July 5, 2015 | Location: Sausalito, California
Weekend Highlight Reel:
We arrived to a foggy San Fransisco, crossed the Golden Gate and settled into our house in Cavallo Point, Sausalito. Originally known as Fort Baker, Cavallo Point has been preserved by the National Parks Service and Golden Gate Conservatory. The grounds are gorgeous and offer a huge lawn- perfect for Holiday festivities like BBQ and Fireworks (over the bay). We made ourselves right at home for the weekend and even brought along our pup, Patton. Exceptional room service breakfasts and nearby hikes make this location a top pick for the San Fran area.
On the morning of July 4th, we woke up and had the best room service-- berry pancakes and eggs, sunny side up. Cavallo Point provides espresso machines right in the room, so needless to say, we weren't in a rush to leave our cozy little house. Once we were full and caffeinated, we hiked to the top of the Golden Gate with Patton and got lost in 'Karl The Fog.' -- San Fransisco's chosen name for summer's hovering gloom. We had a quick lunch at Bar Bocce (Still drooling over the Kale Pesto Pizza) and latenight dinner/fireworks by the Bay.
That night, we ventured into downtown Sausalito for drinks at Scomas. Afterwards, we walked next-door to Barrel House Tavern for one of the best dinners I've ever experienced. Truly-- the best views, environment/design and food! I highly recommend the Grilled NY Strip or Pacific Swordfish. Barrel House vibe: Northern Californian with gorgeous craft wood finishes. The historical building has been redesigned to mimic the shape of a whiskey barrel (with large windows for breathtaking waterfront views, of course). The menu: locally sourced ingredients and delicious hand-crafted seasonal cocktails. Ladies, you must try the 'Happy Feet.'
And on Sunday, we caught up on a few must-see's in Downtown Sausalito, including:
The Floating Houses
Lappert's Ice Cream
Up next, a little more about Bri's holiday weekend spent on the Florida coast!
