Nightly Ritual: Golden Milk
I've long been a proponent of attempting to make everyday tasks special and meaningful. My nightly routine is no exception. Those who know me best know that it always starts with a long, warm shower (maybe a little bit too long). After my shower, I move on to applying my nighttime skincare regimen and finish up with brushing and hopefully flossing; it is always a struggle to make myself floss. For the past few weeks, I have been incorporating a new component into my nightly ritual: golden milk.
Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, has many benefits. Turmeric has a multitude of health improving qualities, including but not limited to fighting inflammation, boosting immune function, protecting the digestive tract and improving skin health. There are many different recipes for golden milk, but the one that I've been using lately is on the simpler side:
G O L D E N M I L K
- 1 cup Califia Farms Almond Milk (unsweetened or original). This almond milk is high in calcium (not all are) and carrageenan-free.
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
I have been drinking it cold, but I plan to try whisking all the ingredients together and heating in a small saucepan. I believe the spices would mix easier that way. If you're looking to enhance your nightly routine, I highly recommend including a healing cup of golden milk.
