Current Skin Care Favorites
When I struggled with skin issues during my first trimester of pregnancy, I knew it was time to make some changes to my skin care regimen. About three months prior to the start of my pregnancy, I stopped using Retin-A due to the fact that topical retinoids may be harmful to fetuses. Although I didn't immediately experience any ill effects, I believe that discontinuing the use of Retin-A, along with the hormonal changes that come with pregnancy, caused my skin to be very unpredictable. I began my search for pregnancy friendly products that were also anti-aging and would help prevent both breakouts and hyperpigmentation. I have been using the following products with success:
T2 Oxygen Eye Cream - Near the end of my third trimester of pregnancy, I started to notice the circles under my eyes were becoming darker and my skin was slightly puffier and drier than usual. I started using T2 Oxygen Eye Cream to combat the problems that I was experiencing. After a few weeks, I noticed that my under eye area was more hydrated and my dark circles were less pronounced than before I began using it. However, T2 Oxygen Eye Cream really began to impress me during the postpartum period. Although I was getting very little sleep, my eye area did not show it nearly as much as I expected it to. I attribute that to the daily use of T2 Oxygen Eye Cream.
Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask - This mask has helped keep my skin clear and make my pores less visible. I have been using it a few times per week for a couple of months and I plan to continue using it due to the positive changes I have noticed in my skin. I have also used it as an overnight spot treatment to quickly heal problem areas.
NeoStrata Gel Plus AHA 15 - This is definitely a holy grail product for me! It is an extra strength glycolic acid gel that exfoliates to even skin tone and decrease the appearance of large pores, fine lines and wrinkles. Glycolic acid is safe for both pregnancy and breastfeeding, so I plan to use it instead of Retin-A for years to come.
Paula's Choice RESIST C15 Super Booster - I was using a vitamin C serum that was over three times more expensive when I noticed that RESIST C15 Super Booster contained the same ingredients. It has done a great job at brightening my skin and preventing additional discoloration. While it still isn't cheap, it is a lot more affordable and just as effective as the serum I was previously using.
Boscia Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser - I typically don't stick to one cleanser for long. I am always switching around, looking for one that actually makes a difference in my skin. My search ended when I began using Boscia's Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser. I love how this cleanser heats up and deep cleans my skin.
